Nashik City Attractions & Famous Destinations of Maharashtra

Nashik in Maharashtra shares a close proximity with many of mythological temples. Nashik is amongst the most sacred place as well as the trade center for many pilgrims. Myhtology has it that king Rama, during the 14 years of exile made Nashik his home. Sage Valmiki, Mahakavi Kalidas, and Bhavabhooti have paid rich tributes to their texts. In the year 150 BC, author Ptolemy has mentioned that it was probably countries largest market place. 

Today Nashik is a well developed town with a bustling populace. This city has a blend of both ancient and modern cultures. Infinite numbers of manufacturing and agricultural industries are nestled in Nashik. The national securities printing press is also located in Nashik responsible for printing Indian currency. It is also the major agricultural hub of onions, strawberries and strawberries. The yield of all these vegetables and fruits is highest in the country. The Attractions in Nashik are as follows:

Ramkund: This holy tank is 27 meter by 12 meter wide and was built in 1696 by Chitrarao Khatarkar in the year 1696. It is believed that Rama and Sita used to take bathe in this holy tank during their exile. It is this where Hindus used to immerse the ashes of a dead person, so that hi/her soul attain moksha or liberation. Many big dignitaries like Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and YB chavan and others have been immersed in Ramkund.

Muktidham Temple: The famous temple is located in Nashik, just 7 kms from the Nashik. This temples is fully is painted in off white color. Around 18 chapters of Bhagvat Gita are inscribed on the wall. It is said that visiting this temple bestows the pilgrims with the same results or fruits as achieved after visiting the Chaar Dhaams.

Kalaram Temple: The Kalaram temple was built in the year 1794 and is similar to the architectural designs to the near by Trimbakeshwar temple. The Kalaram temple was 70 feet in height and was the idea of Gopika Bia Peshwa. It was built with black stone from Rasej mines. The temple has icons of Ram, Laxman and Sita which can easily be traced here. Besides this, there are other small temples which are worth visiting while on a tour to Nashik. This includes Maruti temple, Vithal temple and Ganpati temple.

Coin Museum: The Indian Institute in Numismatic studies was established here in the 1980. Nestled in the scenic surroundings of the Anjneri Hill, the institute is one of its kinds in Asia. Anjneri hills shares a strong thread of connection with Mughals, Marathas, Koli and Bahamanis. This museum has artifacts and historical monuments existing from the times immemorial. The antiques, master pieces, and real coins are the monuments worth the exploration. The coin museum is a must see destination in Nashik.

Pandavleni Caves: The Pandavleni caves are located on a Table land on Trivashmi Hill. Built by Jain kings, these caves are 2,000 years old. There are 24 caves that were home to Jain saints such as Teerthankara Vrishadeo, Veer Manibhadraji, and Ambika devi. There are statues and sculptures of Buddha and Boddhistavas as well. The cave complex consists of large caves, which were the meeting place of disciples and area of preaching sermons. There are several water tanks chiseled into rock.
